Steps in the application process

1. Request application packet
Please complete the admission inquiry form to let us know that you are interested in discovering more about Miquon. A packet of printed materials including a color brochure, supplementary information, and an application form will be mailed to you. If you have specific questions at this stage you should contact the Director of Admissions.

2. Parents visit Miquon
We ask you to visit Miquon before deciding to apply for your child's admission. The ideal time to visit is during the fall of the year before entry. Read more about visiting Miquon.

3. Submit application
The admissions application form may be downloaded here and is also included if you request the admissions packet. Once printed and signed, the form should be mailed to Miquon with the non-refundable $50 application fee. (We do not accept on-line applications.)

A word about timing: there is no specific deadline but we request that applications for Kindergarten and above are submitted by December 1st. This timetable enables us to coordinate with other area schools, and with the financial aid application process. Applications for Nursery should be submitted by January 15th. After these dates, applications will be accepted as long as space is available; please ask the Director of Admissions about availability.

4. Information gathering
Once you have decided that you will apply to Miquon, you should schedule a meeting with the Director of Admissions. Sometimes this meeting can be coordinated with your individual tour of the school. This conversation is an important part of the admissions process and should be accomplished before the child's visit.

You can download the following documents (or request them by mail) which are to be completed before the child's visit to Miquon:

Parent Questionnaire
(This MSWord document may be returned by email.)

ADVIS Confidential Recommendation Form
(applicants for Nursery - 1st grade)

ADVIS Confidential Recommendation Form
(applicants for 2nd - 5th grades)

Request for Academic Records
(applicants for 1st grade and up)

5. Child visits Miquon

  • Nursery candidate visits are arranged individually or in small groups from February onwards. One parent remains with the child in the Nursery classroom for 1½ - 2 hours.
  • Kindergarten candidates are invited in groups to a morning Play Day in January.
  • Older children visit individually in a classroom with their current grade during the month of January or later. 1st grade applicants visit for a morning, 2nd and 3rd grade applicants for one day, 4th and 5th grade applicants for two consecutive days.

During the child's visit, observation and age-appropriate screening for skills are conducted. Outside testing is not usually required, but if it already has been conducted, we ask to see the reports.

6. Decision
You are notified of the outcome of your application on or around February 1st, or within about a week of the child's visit. Occasionally it is necessary to arrange a second visit or to gather additional information before a decision is made.

7. Acceptance and enrollment
Enrollment Contracts are typically mailed with the letter of acceptance. A signed contract and non-refundable deposit of $500 are required to hold a place for the applicant. Generally families are given two weeks to make a decision about an offer. By common agreement with other area schools, candidates for Kindergarten and up who receive offers in early February have until March 1st to make their decision.

8. Applying for financial aid
Applications for admission are considered independently of the financial aid application process, and a decision about admission is made without regard to a candidate's need for financial support. In order to receive an offer of financial aid at the same time as an offer of admission, families must meet the financial aid application deadline of January 7th.
