The first meeting of the Dyslexia Affinity Group will be held Thursday 11/16 from
12:45 – 1:15 pm. This group was started two years ago after a student came to the staff with a willingness to support her peers and the insight of someone who has grown more comfortable with her learning challenges, she told us, “I know I’m not the only one.”  This is such a wonderful example of how children at Miquon advocate for their needs and think of ways to support one another.

This group will be facilitated by Jen Curyto and Rossana Zapf and is open to any 3rd through 6th grader who identifies as having dyslexia and/or has struggled to read and/or write. Our plan is to have another meeting at a later time that will include 1st and 2nd graders. By keeping the group small, we have learned that more children have the opportunity to share their individual experiences.

We hope that by providing a safe forum to discuss reading and writing challenges, our students will feel empowered to work through these difficulties while developing empathy for others.

Parents and extended family are invited to this year’s Winter Assembly, featuring performances from every classroom group. We’ll gather on Fri, Dec 15 from 10 – 11:30 am at First United Methodist Church of Germantown (FUMCOG) for a special day of celebration and Miquon camaraderie. Arrive early (9:30) to find seating; as a courtesy to our children, please plan to remain for the entire performance.

All families are responsible for transporting their child(ren) to and from FUMCOG.  There will be no classes held at Miquon on Dec 15. There is no van or bus transportation and Vacation Day Care is closed.

Parking details will be including in forthcoming email invitation.

The previously scheduled November board meeting has been canceled. The next meeting will be held on Weds, Dec 13 at 7:00 pm in Louis and Jeri’s room.

Parent Events Survey

We need your opinions! In the past, Miquon has offered various opportunities for parents to learn about topics connected to children’s social and emotional health. The Community Committee of the Board of Directors would love your feedback on what kinds of events you would find interesting and helpful. Please take this short (less than 5 minutes!) survey here.

After School Art | Wednesdays, 4:00 – 5:30 pm
Six Senses Clay Studio | 20 E. Mt. Airy Ave, Phila

Starting this Wednesday and on a rolling admission basis, children ages 4-14 will explore art in many mediums, depending on the interests of the students, with a focus on clay and excitement about combining mediums. School bus drop-off right in front of our building can be arranged with your school (anytime after 3:30 pm) or you can bring your child at 4 pm. Katie’s welcoming approach to including children into the group make her an advocate for your child and their time with art.
