ENROLLMENT

The new online Parent Portal collects Student Information Forms and Household Information Forms. Many of you logged in and updated some of your information, but didn’t complete your Student Information Forms. Others still need to login for the first time.

Please log into your account and click the “Student Forms Online” button at the top left of your screen to complete the following forms:

  • Student Information Form
  • Family Information Form
  • Emergency Contact Information Form
  • Automated Emergency Announcements Form

DRIVEWAY SAFETY

Safety of children and adults is our first concern. Please adhere to these guidelines.

  • Children may never cross the parking lot alone.
  • Drive slowly on the campus, keeping to the right and observing the one-way circles (counter-clockwise) in the parking lot and at the bottom of the drive. Never drive around or in front of school buses or vans unless directed by a Miquon staff person. No three point turns, please.
  • Do not use the After Care Building or Art Room driveways except during evening meetings.
  • When parking on the driveway, park on the right side. Always use the dirt path to walk up.
  • Please avoid walking in the driveway or parking lot. Keep children close to you while walking back to your car. Hold hands.

LUNCH SALES

The two 5th/6th grade classes sell lunch on Fridays as a fundraiser for special activities and trips. Diane and Mark’s class offers pizza, and Louis and Jeri’s class offers other lunch items on alternating weeks throughout the year. Order forms go home in back packs weekly; children should submit their forms and payment no later than 9:00 am on Thursdays.

Lunch sales will begin this Friday with pizza!

EVENTS

New Parents Dinner | Weds, Sept 13, 6:00 pm | Moore Building

New parents are treated to a welcome dinner hosted by board members. Meet other new families and several Miquon teachers, and even learn the school song! If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to Tia Mathisen.

Childcare is provided for New Parents Dinner on a first come, first served basis for up to 20 children. The cost is $10 per child* and includes a pizza dinner. If you require evening childcare, please mention this in your RSVP.

*Please note, we can take non-Miquon student siblings at evening childcare, although we cannot accommodate children in diapers. Thanks.

Board Meeting |Weds, Sept 13, 7:00 pm | Louis and Jeri’s Room

Did you know all Miquon parents are invited to attend board meetings? Join us for the first meeting of the year, held immediately following the New Parents Dinner. Future meetings are typically held the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm.

All families are expected to come out for this event, rain or shine! This year we’ll have jobs ranging from organizing the library to washing windows to renovating the After Care Building. We’ll tackle the usual grounds work as well.

We’re still on if it rains!! There will be plenty of indoor work to accomplish. Come wearing old clothing, long sleeves, sneakers, gloves, pruners, shovels, and wheelbarrows.

We’ll stop work for a hot dog and veggie dog lunch; please feel free to BYO picnic food to supplement the fare.

Back to School Night | Thurs, Sept 28, 6:00 pm | Your Child’s Classroom

Gather with other parents, meet teachers, and what’s planned for your child’s classroom this year.  The evening begins with a wine and cheese reception in the Moore Building at 6:00 pm; we’ll hear from Principal Susannah Wolf at 6:30.

Childcare is provided for Back to School Night on a first come, first served basis for up to 20 children. (As of today, we have 8 remaining openings.)

AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT

Destination Imagination | Mondays, starting Sept 18 | Grades 3-6

Destination Imagination (DI) is a creative problem solving team sport. Children work as a team to design, create, imagine and build solutions to artistic, scientific, structural, dramatic, technical and social action-oriented challenges. Work in DI must be 100% child initiated; adults are involved only as mentors and teachers. The team will tackle both a Central Challenge and many Instant Challenges.

The DI season concludes with the state tournament in March.

First Lego League (FLL) | Mondays, starting Sept 18 | Grades 4-6

First Lego League (FLL) is a robotics program that sets teams up to research a real-world problem and to work together to develop a solution. This year the challenge will be in the area of hydro-dynamics, and part of the solution requires that teams design, build, and program a robot using Lego Mindstorms® technology. Children develop critical thinking, team-building skills, and basic STEM applications. Participants present solutions to judges and have their robot compete on a table-top playing field.

The FLL season concludes with a tournament in December.

Fees
The cost for either program will be $50 for the season. Please do not let the cost be a barrier to your child’s participation; contact Susannah  to make other arrangements if necessary.

EXTENDED DAY PROGRAMS

The After Care Program is off to a great start this school year! Please drop in and say hi. We will be having a baseball class that’s open for all ages Sept 26-Oct 24. The class will run each Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 pm. During the class we will be playing fun games that work on different skills like hitting, pitching, and fielding the ball.
