  1. Review the calendar; prep important for start of school dates/events

  2. Complete our print-based school forms if you have not done so already. If your child has allergies, this is important! We also must have your immunization records before school starts.

Meet & Greet Your Teachers
Enjoy some refreshments on the Playbarn, then head to your child’s new (or returning) classroom for this informal opportunity to greet teachers and others in your child’s class. This is a good time to have a quick check in with the teachers about any specific needs you may have, if you haven’t already. Families new to Miquon should meet 30 min early at the Playbarn for a quick orientation. (Note, Nursery and Kindergarten families will a meet and greet on Saturday, September 2; details below.)

Who? All families with students in Grades 1-6
When? Thursday, August 31 from 4:00-5:30 pm

Nursery & Kindergarten Work Party
Help teachers ready the classrooms while you get to know others in your child’s group. Work will stop for a hot dog and veggie dog BBQ lunch; please BYO picnic items for your family to supplement the fare. Families new to Miquon should meet 30 min early at the Playbarn for breakfast and a quick orientation.

When? Saturday, September 2 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm

First Day of School for Grades 1-6
It is time for learning, play, and fun as a whole new year begins! Buses and vans will be in service. If you are bringing your child to school, please allow time to check in at the office before the buzzer rings at 8:25 am. (Please note, on this day, Wednesday, September 6, Vacation Day Care is open for Nursery and Kindergarten students from 8:00 am-6:00 pm. Also, our regular After Care Program, which runs from 3:00-6:00 pm, begins.)

Who? All students in Grades 1-6
When? Wednesday, September 6, 8:25 am-2:55 pm
Where? All students should check in at the office on arrival

First Day of Nursery & Kindergarten
The very first day of school! Vans will run as scheduled. If you are bringing your child to school, please go directly to the classroom to check in between 8:15-8:25 am. We will encourage you to give your child a hug and then stop by the Parents Coffee on your way down the hill (see below). Parents picking up children at the Playbarn at 2:55 pm should arrive around 2:45 to grab a parking spot before the buzzer rings.

Parents Coffee
After morning drop-off, all Miquon parents are invited to join us for a morning beverage with Principal Susannah Wolf. This is a relatively informal gathering; please feel free to bring younger siblings along.

Who? All Miquon parents
When? Thursday, September 7 from 8:30-9:30 am
Where? Playbarn (rain location is the Clisby Library); to help us plan, please RSVP to Charlotte Boulay.


Please be patient with bus routes as we settle into the new year. As the drivers practice their new routes, pick up and drop off times will become more and more predictable. You can also report issues to Pam.

Philadelphia Bus Students
You will receive a letter from Philadelphia School District Transportation with your child’s bus number, bus stop, and time of morning pick up. Let Pam know immediately if there is a problem with your child’s bus stop.

Suburban Bus Students
Cheltenham and Lower Merion: These school districts send bus stop information directly to Miquon; Pam will inform you as soon as she receives it.

Colonial: Colonial School District will send you a letter directing you to their website to obtain bus stop information. The letter will include a user ID and password to get onto the website.

Springfield: Check the local newspaper and the “Transportation” section on sdst.org.

Wissahickon: Visit wsdweb.org, click “Departments,” and then click “Transportation.”

Vacation Day Care
Summer VDC is available just prior to the start of school. Run by our regular Extended Day Programs staff, Summer VDC offers children free play, ample time in the pool, and loads of fun. Advance registration is required by contacting Tia Mathisen.

Who? Any Miquon student, camper, other area children ages 3-12
When? 8:00 am-6:00 pm on August 21-25, August 28-September 1, and September 5; also September 6 (for Nursery & Kindergarten only)
