So much of my childhood was filled with writing and illustrating stapled storybooks, most of which involved weathering winter storms with my family and doing hefty chores. It was mostly fiction! I really like that every day at Miquon our learners tell stories during play and exploration built upon their identity and experiences. Their thinking guided me into writing my capstone project for graduate school, “Outdoor Play and Children’s Storied Constructions.” Whether they’re investigating aquatic insects in the creek or playing Hawk and Cat Family among the tree stumps and rocks, they engage with the sensory-infused environment. I pull on my creek boots, head outdoors, and see their stories unfold.
