Mamta Shah

Chair, Equity, Culture, and Community Committee

Greetings! My name is Mamta Shah and I am elated to join the Miquon Board of Directors. I am a learning scientist at a health and analytics company, and I teach undergraduate and graduate students in schools of education. Over the last 20 years, I have carved a unique professional identity at the intersection of industry and academia in the vast field of education and technology (and analytics, more recently). My scholarship has focused on (a) examining how people learn in technology-mediated environments in formal (K-12 schools, college) and informal settings (e.g., science museum, environmental centers); (b) designing learning environments that are personally relevant, scaffold knowledge change, and shape students’ motivation; and, (c) providing actionable insights to educators for supporting learners, administrators for improving learning outcomes, and policy makers for optimizing programs. I enjoy working with cross-functional teams, translating research into practice, and making data-driven decisions. I am eager to draw upon my professional experiences and learn from other board members.

My undergraduate and graduate education is in human development, and it has always been important for me to choose an environment for my son that nourishes his whole self. Like many parents, I remember stepping into Miquon the first time being in awe of the school and its commitment to nurturing childhood. I am so grateful that my son is living a major portion of his formative years in a place that he loves and loves him back dearly. My appreciation for the school has grown deeper in the last three years, especially in the way the staff, leadership and board have supported the school community during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have been active in small ways as a current parent (e.g., serving as a class parent, volunteering for field trips); I look forward to elevating my contributions by serving on the board.
