I bring a background in clinical social work to my approach to school-based counseling and social work. Some of the many wonderful things about social work are that it takes an approach to mental health and wellness that meets clients (adults and children!) where they are, honors their self-determination, and emphasizes the importance and value of family and cultural contexts. It is also informed by a social justice perspective–in this way, it is a natural fit to progressive pedagogy. I take a child-directed approach and incorporate many kinds of play, art, and sensory exploration into my work with kids. I love working with parents–supporting and learning from them, and hearing their questions and concerns–and am excited to launch some parenting education/support initiatives at Miquon this coming year.
