A Tree for Every Child
This week, a tree for every child in the fifth and sixth grade was added to the Miquon forest by his or her own hands. Along with Science Kate, children dug right-sized holes in the hard, compact soil along the lower creek bank beyond the pool, often working around or removing many large rocks. In total, 26 Emerald Ash Borer resistant trees were planted to help with reforestation and creek bank stabilization, following recent invasive plant removal in the area–everything from Arrowwood to Gray Dogwood to Witch Hazel. It was a great civic duty follow-on activity to this past weekend’s work party, which involved planting throughout the Miquon woods.
