Longtime Head of Maintenance, Bill Wanamaker, Dies at 88

William L. Wanamaker of Conshohocken William L. Wanamaker, “Dink – Bill”, age 88 of Conshohocken, a retired carpenter, died on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 with his family by his side at his Conshohocken home that he built and resided in since 1949.

He was born in Gladwyne in 1925 moving to Conshohocken in 1949. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Catherine (Devlin) Wanamaker, who passed away in 2011. Bill was employed as a plant manager at FMC in Marcus Hook for over 20 years and head of maintenance at the Miquon School in Conshohocken for 20 years.

He was a WWII combat veteran serving his country honorably in the United States Army. Bill started and built the Gladwyne VFW Post 6956. He was also a member of the Gladwyne Rod & Gun Club for 54 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Towanda, PA. He was a member of Spring Mill Fire Co.

Above all, Bill loved his children, grandchildren and great-grand-child. Bill is survived by: a son, William L. Jr. (Sue) of King of Prussia; 2 daughters, Cathy L. Wanamaker of Conshohocken and Diane (Matt) Wertz of Conshohocken; 4 grandchildren, Melissa and Allison Wanamaker, Jennifer and Matthew Wertz; a great-grandchild, Elizabeth Wertz; his loving care giver, Valarie Campbell. Predeceased in life by: a brother, Ralph; and 3 sisters, Pearl, Mildred, and Dorothy.

Relatives and friends may pay respects on Saturday morning, June 28, from 9-10:30am at the William A. Moore Funeral Home, 708 Fayette St., Conshohocken. A Catholic service will be conducted in the funeral home at 10:30am. Interment, Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill’s name may be made to: Gladwyne VFW, 320 River Rd., Gladwyne, PA 19035.
