Today Wendy and Sara’s group took turns at the potter’s wheel in Art. Those who were already practiced on the wheel served as coaches, helping their peers learn how to lean into the wheel and press down, make thickness measurements, and adjust for size. After their creations are fired in the kiln a first time, they’ll glaze their pieces, and then fire them a second time. This is the fourth graders’ third occasion working with pottery this year–having already hand-built candle holders and also clay pots using the coil method.
