11.1 Halloween and Alternative Fall Fest
Alternative Fall Fest moved to Friday, November 1
In an effort to acknowledge the valuable diversity that creates our community, and with families having a wide range of practices and beliefs, on November 1 we are offering an alternative gathering for children and families who do not celebrate Halloween. Led by Miquon teacher Mark Palacio in a separate space from the traditional Halloween parade, the Fall Fest program begins with lunch (at 12:45 pm) and will include fall-inspired games and activities through 2:30 pm. Parents and guardians are invited to join their children and our community for Fall Fest; please email your classroom teachers if your child would like to participate in this special activity.
Halloween Parade also moved to Friday, November 1
Parents are invited to join the fun for our annual Halloween parade on Friday, November 1. Parents of younger children may come as early as 1:00 pm to help with changing into costumes in the classroom; the official parade begins at 1:30 pm and costume viewing from the Playbarn takes at approximately 2:00 – 2:30 pm.
Parade Route
We have a parade route that goes along the pathway from the Nursery down toward the office; parents and visitors please line the path to view the parade. At the close of the parade, assemble around (but not on) the Playbarn benches for classroom presentations and photos. (Leave the benches open for student seating, please.)
What’s Appropriate for School?
Remember some Miquon students are as young as three years old. Therefore, please no masks, no weapons, no scary monsters. Also, no candy. Thanks!
Many people in our community love Halloween and the magic of dressing up. Part of creating a safe school community for ALL students on Halloween is making sure racially, ethnically, and culturally based costumes are NOT part of our festivities because cultures are not costumes. We encourage you to read more about this.
What about Dismissal?
All children and families depart following the parade (around 2:30 pm). Please make sure you check out with an office staff person before you leave. (Your child is welcomed to stay until regular 2:55 pm dismissal as well, when he or she may take a bus/van/parent car ride home per usual. Those who ride the bus/van home may arrive earlier than usual because so many children ride home with their parents that day. After Care is open until 6:00 pm.)
