Nearly a decade ago, my exhausted Hyundai and I hobbled up Harts Lane. We were searching for a place to apply the Progressive teaching philosophy that existed in the pages of my graduate school readings. By the end of that day, I was lucky enough to be hired as a teacher here.
Through my time leading first, second and third graders, I was able to see Progressive pedagogy come to life in every inch of campus from the Bamboo Forest to Creekwood Hollow. I found children being given the space to play, explore, wonder, discover, and question while adults guided them in the process of constructing their own meaning. Even more? I was welcomed as a member of this tight-knit community where teachers, children, and families truly care for and look out for one another.
It is this strong community that lured me back to Miquon after some time away. For the past few years through my work in admissions and advancement, I have spent my time introducing new families to this community that I love, so they can discover the magic of our little school in the woods just as I have.
