Louis Herbst

I have taught many subjects in my 11 years as a teacher including Upper and Middle School Social Studies, Sixth Grade Math, and Physical Education. I have also served as an Academic Dean and Assistant Head of School. I began teaching at United Friends School in 2006 and also worked as their Athletic Director, After School Enrichment Program Coordinator, and Summer Camp Director.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in History and Education, summa cum laude, and I am a graduate of the Friends Council on Education’s Institute for Engaging Leadership in Friends Schools. I also hold a M.S.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania in independent school leadership where I researched the factors influencing technology integration in an independent school kindergarten classroom.

I enjoy thinking about educational instructional practices that provide students with real-world experiences and knowledge. I also enjoy painting, sculpting, reading and writing. I have written several articles for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, Friends Journal and my research on factors influencing Quaker views on Friends Education has been published through the Friends Council on Education.
